A linear relation was found between the at. charge on the O atoms of I (R = H, Me, Me2CH; R1, R2 = H, Me) and the basicity of I, as determined by IR frequency shifts of the OH group of PhOH. A linear relation between basicity and Taft σ* constants was also obtained.
