A method for the synthesis of the above-mentioned title catalysts [i.e., (benzenesulfonate-κOO‘)dibutyltin and (methanesulfonate-κOO‘)dibutyltin] is reported here. A reaction of dibutyltin oxide with benzenesulfonic acid or methanesulfonic acid gave two dibutyltin(IV) sulfonates which were used as the catalysts for the synthesis of acetals and ketals. The optimal reaction conditions were obtained by orthogonal experiments The advantages of the present procedure are high yields and short reaction time. Furthermore, the catalysts could be recovered easily by filtration and reused efficiently.
