A novel seco-amorphane sesquiterpene incorporating a fully saturated furo[2,3-d]1,3-dioxole system was isolated from the aerial parts of Fabiana imbricata. Such functionality is unique within the sesquiterpene family, bur does have one close relative in artemisinin (the antimalarial principle from Artemisia annual, which contains a saturated pyrano[3,2-e)1,2,4-trioxin system.
