Exptl. results showed that the preferential conditions were as follows: based on 0.1 mol of vanillin, the molar ratio of vanillin to 1,2 -propylene glycol was 1.0: 1.4; the dosage of catalyst was 2.5% of the total weight of the reactants; the amount of cyclohexane as water stripping agent was 12 mL; the reaction time was 3.0 h; under these conditions, the yield could achieve 86.0%.
