These copolymers are thermally stable (the initial decomposition temperatures are higher than 350 degrees C under an N-2 atmosphere) and have low refractive indices and high optical transparency from UV to near-infrared. In this study amorphous fluorinated coatings applied to anodized titanium surface have been investigated. A copolymer between tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoro-4-trifluoromethoxy-1,3-dioxole (AD60) and two perfluoropolyether containing ammonium phosphate (F10) or triethoxysilane (S10) functionalities have been tested. Ellipsometry and atomic force microscopy data have been used to measure the thickness of the fluorinated coatings. A tailored mechanical preliminary test has also been explored to evaluate the adhesion of the coatings on the anodized titanium surface. The resistance to surface soiling with castor oil was also preliminarily investigated. The fluorinated coating tested on anodized titanium showed a low apparent surface energy and high chromatic aspect conservation, this is particularly evident for the titanium anodized coated with triethoxysilane functionalities fluoropolymers S10.

Novel poly(spiroorthocarbonate)s [poly(SOC)]s having a Cardo or bent structure were synthesized by polycondensation of several bis-catechols having fluorene (BCFL), spirobisindane (BCSPI), or spirobischromane (BCSPC) in the structure with 2,2,6,6-tetrachlorobenzo[1,2-d:4,5-d’]bis[1,3]dioxole (4ClBD). Synthesis of poly(SOC)s was confirmed by NMR and IR spectrometry. The poly(SOC)s obtained from BCFL or BCSPC were soluble in common organic solvents. The glass transition temperature of the poly(SOC)s was not detected by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in the range of 50-300 degrees C. The 10 wt % decomposition temperature of the poly(SOC) s was found to be above 400 degrees C. These results indicated the high thermal stability of the poly(SOC)s. Soluble poly(SOC) s could be possessed to form a film on a glass plate by the spin coat method. The obtained polymer films were 0.2 mu m in thickness with 95% light transmission in the optical wavelength range. These results suggested that the Cardo or bent structure may block the packing of the main-chain of the structure, which improves the solubility of the polymers, increases transparency, and enhances the thermal stability of SOCs. Reactive PTFE films that are light colored with a metallic luster are formed rather than the dark, metallic color typical of PTFE surface reduction without mercaptan treatment. These films have poor adhesion toward epoxy resins but good adhesion toward gold applied by sputtering. FEP and PFA films behaved similarly. These results are attributed to the incorporation of sulfur onto the reduced surface. Unreduced fluoropolymer films reacted with only sodium mercaptan fail to show C-S bond incorporation. This newly developed method can be used to selectively metallize the fluoropolymer film surface with gold layers and affords very high conductivity of the metallized regions. Mixed matrix membranes of synthesized polyurethane (PU) based on toluene diisocyanate (TDI), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polytetramethylene glycol (PTMG) with polyvinyl alcohol based polar silica particles were prepared by solution casting technique. The homogeneity and thermal properties of the prepared PDMS-PU/silica membranes were characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The SEM micrographs confirmed the distribution of silica particles in the polymer matrix without agglomerations. Gas permeation properties of membranes with different silica contents were studied for pure CO2, CH4, O-2, He and N-2 gases. The obtained results indicated the permeability of the condensable and polar CO2 gas was enhanced whereas permeability of other gases decreased upon increasing the silica content of the mixed matrix membranes. The permeability of CO2 and its selectivity over N-2 was increased from 68.4 Barrer and 22 in pure PDMS-PU to 96.7 Barrer and 64.4 in the mixed matrix membranes containing 10 wt% of the silica particles.
