Enantioselective syntheses with titanium carbohydrate complexes. Part 7. Enantioselective allyltitanation of aldehydes with cyclopentadienyldialkoxyallyltitanium complexes was written by Hafner, Andreas;Duthaler, Rudolf O.;Marti, Roger;Rihs, Grety;Rothe-Streit, Petra;Schwarzenbach, Franz. And the article was included in Journal of the American Chemical Society in 1992.Reference of 93379-49-8 This article mentions the following:

The preparation, anal., and reactions of novel, highly stereoselective cyclopentadienyldialkoxyallyltitanium reagents, available in both enantiomeric forms, are described. Chiral monochlorotitanates are readily prepared from CpTiCl3 (Cp = cyclopentadienyl) or Cp*TiCl3 (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) and chiral 1,4-diols, which in turn are obtained from tartrate ester acetals by Grignard addition The resulting stable seven-membered titanacycles have been analyzed by 1H, 13C, and 49Ti NMR spectroscopy. The structures of two representatives, the complexes I (R = Cl, R1 = Ph, Me), are confirmed by x-ray diffraction. The allyl reagents are obtained from the chlorides by transmetalation with allyllithium, allylpotassium, or allyl Grignard compounds These reagents do not have to be isolated or purified for the ensuing reactions with aldehydes. Correlation of x-ray data and Ti NMR line widths with selectivity suggests that asym. distortion of the titanium coordination geometry could be essential for enantioface discrimination, rather than direct interactions of reactants with the chiral ligand. By variation of the ligand substituents, allyltitanates derived from chloride I (R = Cl, R1 = Ph) (with 2,2-dimethyl-α,α,α’,α’-tetraphenyl-1,3-dioxolane-3,4-dimethanol as the ligand) emerged as the most selective reagents. Excellent regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities (usually ≥95% ee, ≥95% de) are obtained for reactions with various achiral and chiral aldehydes. The NMR spectra of the allyl and the crotyl complexes (R,R)-I (R = allyl, 2-butenyl, R1 = Ph) exhibit fast 1,3-shifts favoring the (E) isomer with titanium η1-bound to the unsubstituted allyl terminus. This equilibration, and also the equilibrations of other aryl-, alkoxy-, and silyl-substituted allyltitanium complexes, restricts this method to the preparation of branched regioisomers with the anti configuration. In the experiment, the researchers used many compounds, for example, ((4S,5S)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4,5-diyl)bis(diphenylmethanol) (cas: 93379-49-8Reference of 93379-49-8).

Total Synthesis of Disciformycin A and B: Unusually Exigent Targets of Biological Significance was written by Kwon, Yonghoon;Schulthoff, Saskia;Dao, Quang Minh;Wirtz, Conny;Fuerstner, Alois. The first total synthesis of the potent antibiotic disciformycin B is described, which is exceptionally isomerization-prone and transforms into disciformycin A even under notably mild conditions. To outweigh this bias, the approach to disciformycin B hinged on the use of a silyl residue at C4 to lock the critical double bond in place and hence insure the integrity of the synthetic intermediates en route to disciformycin B. This tactic was instrumental for the preparation of the building blocks and formation of the macrocyclic ring via ring closing alkyne metathesis. To make the end game successful, however, it proved necessary to cleave the C-silyl protecting group off; it was at this stage that the exceptional sensitivity of the target became fully apparent. The rising global warming and associated climate change demand efficient tactics to reduce CO2 concentration in the atm. Conversion of epoxides to cyclic carbonates using CO2 is a promising and sustainable approach towards CO2 fixation. However, the inert nature of CO2 and high activation energy requirement for the particular reaction necessitate the use of efficient catalysts. The authors have designed and developed a heterogeneous catalyst using catechol functionalized guanidinium based ligands (L1) and Fe(III) ions to perform the CO2 fixation reaction. The resulting amorphous material (Fe-L1) possesses metal-organic network as revealed through different characterization methods. The optimized catalyst Fe-L1 is efficient for the conversion of a variety of epoxides into their corresponding cyclic carbonates in very good yield (>80%). The reactions were performed under atm. pressure without solvent and external additives (e. g., TBAI or KI). The investigation of the mechanistic pathway indeed validates the synergistic effect of metal and halide ions that leads to the efficient conversion of different epoxides into cyclic carbonates. Also, no significant loss in the catalytic activity of the Fe-L1 is noticed up to six cycles. The post catalytic analyses clearly indicate the robust nature of the catalyst. The developed one component bifunctional catalytic system can pave way towards transition to sustainable carbon capture and conversion. The current trend toward using natural food additives, cosmetics, and medicines has motivated industries to substitute synthetic compounds for natural products. Essential oils (EOs) from medicinal plants are a well-known source of chem. compounds that display several interesting biol. activities, including antimicrobial action. In this study, we investigated the antibacterial activity of EOs extracted from three Piperaceae species collected in the Brazilian Amazon region against a representative panel of cariogenic bacteria. The min. inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the essential oils extracted from Peperomia pellucida (PP-EO), Piper marginatum (PM-EO), and Piper callosum (PC-EO) was determined against Streptococcus mutans, S. mitis, S. sanguinis, S. salivarius, S. sobrinus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Lactobacillus casei by using the microplate microdilution method. PM-EO, PC-EO, and PP-EO displayed antibacterial activity against all the tested cariogenic bacteria. PM-EO displayed the best inhibitory activity, with MIC values ranging from 50 to 500μg/mL. The lowest MIC values were obtained for PM-EO against S. mitis (MIC = 75μg/mL), Lactobacillus casei (MIC = 50μg/mL), and S. mutans (MIC = 50μg/mL). Gas chromatog. mass spectrometry (GC-MS) anal. allowed the chem. composition of all the EOs to be identified. The main constituents of PM-EO, PC-EO, and PP-EO were 3,4-(methylenedioxy)propiophenone, α-pinene, and dillapiole, resp. Finally, the compounds that were exclusively detected in PM-EO are highlighted. Our results suggest that PM-EO may be used in products for treating dental caries and periodontal diseases. A continuous-flow process for the acetalization of crude glycerol with acetone on zeolite catalysts was written by Kowalska-Kus, J.;Held, A.;Nowinska, K.. And the article was included in Chemical Engineering Journal (Amsterdam, Netherlands) in 2020.Quality Control of (2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methanol This article mentions the following:

A continuous flow process using heterogeneous catalysts like zeolites (BEA, MFI, FAU) was developed for the conversion of crude glycerol with acetone to solketal (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol). It was found that BEA zeolite and the hierarchical zeolite of MFI structure exhibit a high catalytic activity in solketal production for 3 h on stream. Almost 85% of glycerol conversion and 98% selectivity to solketal was achieved after 1 h of the reaction. The regeneration of spent catalysts by means of calcination with following ionic exchange restored the initial activity of the applied samples. The effect of particular impurities (alk. cations, water, and MONG (matter organic non glycerol)) present in crude glycerol, on the deactivation process of catalysts, was also explored. Anal. of carbon balance and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurements, as well as FT-IR spectra of applied materials (pure and crude glycerol and spent catalysts) evidenced that the concurrent presence of MONG and alk. cations reduce the zeolite catalysts activity. Considering the alteration of selectivity toward five and six membered isomers with declining acidity of spent catalyst, some tentative reaction paths of both isomers formation have been proposed. As demand for pepper is rising to unprecedented levels, gaps in our knowledge are underlined by our inability to reliably distinguish the different species, in particular in the south-western Indian Ocean; this hampers the possibility of developing their economic potential and protect them efficiently. The aim of this study was to characterize two species of Piper (piperaceae) from Madagascar and one from Reunion Island via a multidisciplinary approach combining botany, genetics and chem. and to propose authentication keys. Morphometric analyses were carried out on 22 quant. and qual. descriptors of the leaf and infructescence. Genetic analyses were conducted through DNA extraction, amplification by PCR and sequencing. Chem. analyses used spectrophotometric and chromatog. methods to determine concentrations in piperine and essential oil and describe the chemotypes of the sampled individuals. Our tri-disciplinary approach showed that the three peppers studied are very different from Piper nigrum L. Reunionese Piper borbonense and M3 Malagasy pepper clearly differ from the M1 Malagasy morphotype. Piper borbonense and M3 pepper appear to be closely related; a distinction could possibly be made at the variety (var.) or form (fa.) level on the basis of morphometry and according to piperine content for chem.
