Cr-doped bi-capped Keggin P-V heteropolyacid (H13PV12Cr2O42·21H2O) was synthesized and used as catalyst for the synthesis of fructone. The effects of reaction conditions were investigated. The product was characterized and analyzed by FT-IR. The most suitable conditions for the reaction are as follows: n(Et acetoacetate)/n(glycol) is 1/2, mass ratio of catalyst to reactant 1.0%, reaction temperature 80-104°C, and reaction time 60 min. Under these conditions, yield of fructone could reach 98.54%, suggesting that H13PV12Cr2O42·21H2O is a good catalyst for the catalytic synthesis of fructone.
